PCR Paternity Test

There are a lot of ways that you can prove paternity, and these many different tests can be performed before or after the birth of the child. The PCR paternity test is actually one of the lab tests that is performed after the DNA samples have been obtained. This is why the PCR paternity test is considered to be the most accurate one and is the one most used by laboratories worldwide. Why do most labs prefer the PCR paternity test over other laboratory tests? It may be because the PCR test multiplies the DNA that is taken from the subjects: mother, child, and alleged father. This makes it easier to find the results.

Why Use the PCR Paternity Test Technique?

One of the most difficult obstacles that laboratories encounter when testing DNA is probably the lack of it. There are many different ways of obtaining DNA samples from the people who need to be tested, and this is usually dependent on the kind of paternity test being done. An example of this is the amniocentesis paternity test where the baby's DNA is obtained via the amniotic fluid found in the sac that protects him. This is a paternity test done during a woman's pregnancy and is often done to determine paternity before a child is born. Another way is through the scraping of cells inside a person's cheek with the use of a sterile cotton swab. Any of these can produce DNA, and this DNA will be used in lab tests to determine if a person is indeed the father of a child.

Since most DNA gathering techniques produce very little DNA to work with, the PCR or polymerase chain reaction method of replicating DNA is used to produce millions of consistent DNA that can be used in the constant comparisons needed to come up with conclusive results. These results are often accurate due to the huge number of DNA that a laboratory can work with, and this huge number of DNA enables them to make numerous comparisons for accuracy. This is why most labs from Texas to Maury to Arizona and everywhere else in the United States can give affordable and accurate service when it comes to paternity tests due to the DNA multiplying use of the PCR method.

Other Uses of PCR or Polymerase Chain Reaction

While PCR is used a lot for multiplying DNA for paternity tests and such, the multiplication of DNA with the use of PCR has been proven to be of good use in other medical fields as well. The use of PCR in researching connections between diseases carried by animals that are transmitted to humans has been well noted. This has been proven in the case of some dog owners having Malassezia pachydermatis due to the reason that the dogs in their care had this affliction and therefore passed it on to them. The use of PCR is also well noted in crime labs where the use of DNA is important for solving cases. When there is DNA evidence that needs to be researched and there is very little of this DNA to use due to the scarcity of the source, PCR is very useful for increasing the amount of DNA that the lab has.
